BISICON 2014, the 2nd Annual Conference of Breast Imaging Society, India was held at Kolkata on 15th -16th November.
It was a great honor to have Dr. Sashi Panja, Minister of State for Women and Child Development & Social Welfare as the chief guest for the event. Despite her busy schedule Dr. Panja found time to address and interact with the audience and provide encouragement to all of us.
The faculty included the top names in the field of Breast Imaging in the state and the country. We were also privileged to have among us Prof Iain Lyburn (UK) and Dr. Preeti Gupta (USA) who through their talks and active participation gave us a perspective on Breast Imaging and interventions in other parts of the world.

The meeting was well attended with the official participants’ registration being 178. It was very encouraging to see that 28% of the total participation comprised of radiologists in training. This is certainly a very healthy sign for the development of Breast radiology in the country. The training aspect got a further boost by the presence of Prof. Bipin Batra; the Executive Director and CEO of the National Board of Examinations, India. Through the efforts of faculty and the enthusiasm of the participants, 2 full days of academic interaction did not seem enough and the faculty had to be dragged out of the last Hands-on session in order to make it to the airport in time.

The event was not all about academics and there was ample opportunity for the nimble feet participants to let their hair down in the evening during the conference dinner. The event drew significant interest in the local media with extensive coverage on television as well as print media which included at least 16 write-ups we are aware of. The academic event was generously supported by BardBiopsy, Fujifilm, GE, Hologic, Medsurge, Philips, Samsung, Siemens, and Volpara Solutions.
